Today I bought some Victoria plums. Nothing particularly odd about that, you might think, except that I think it may be the first time ever that I've paid money for a plum. My parents had a plum tree in their back garden, and while there wasn't always a bumper crop, we would usually get at least a few plums a year out of it. Now these plums being pesticide and fertiliser free, they were of course the most gorgeous plums ever. So we never bought shop plums. I left home 13 years ago, and it's taken me until now to start thinking of plums as something people actually pay money for.

I was quite surprised when I discovered the enormous tree outside Ross's flat is a walnut tree. Now I'm just annoyed I don't know any good walnut recipes :)

I'm surprised you got Victoria plums at this time of the year.
