Siege of Troy
Wow! There really isn't anything else like the uk-freeforms weekender. I spent Thursday panicing about my costume, having managed to assemble most of the materials but with great difficulty thanks to there not really being a decent fabric shop in Oxford, the Feisty Beast (as my sewing machine seems to have become christened) decided that it was going to have one of its days for malfunctioning in every possible way it could think of. Fortunately things came together enough that I had a sewed costume by 7:30 or so, and the dye job also worked, producing a very nice sea green chiton.

On Friday, therefore, I was in a relatively calm state, despite not really having slept well. The Oxford possy set off for Retford. Many thanks to Mark B. (who is not on LJ, and thus Not A Real Person) for hiring the car and driving. Despite a somewhat nasty journey, we arrived with enough time to reread my brief and make last minute improvements to my costume thanks to Nikki and Sue.

From then on was two days of roleplaying madness which only let up slightly on Saturday afternoon, giving me a chance to pop off to bed for a couple of hours that really was essential at that point. I was playing Dido, High Priestess of Poseidon, or rather actually a disguised Cassandra, Princess of Troy, who had offered herself to Poseidon in pennance for Troy failing to sacrifice to him.

From here on, it's probably best to list the highlights of the game for me.

- accidentally falling head over heels in love with my own brother Hector because he wasn't aware I was his sister and tried to seduce me while drunk.

- pleading unsuccessfully with Hades for my twin brother Helenus' life only to find out to my great relief that he had in fact faked his own death and gratefully spiriting him off to Corinth.

- Poseidon being terribly polite about still requiring a sacrifice from Troy and the fact I had to sacrifice my own brother.

- managing to be hopelessly partisan for Troy throughout all the "neutral block" trade negotiations and (I think) getting away with it.

- being screwed into naming Theseus blessed of Poseidon not once but twice.

- running the world's biggest protection racket as High Priestess of Poseidon. (I did, however, when complementing Clytemnestra on the temple of Hera, manage to restrain myself from adding "awfully near the ocean, isn't it?")

- not being right about Troy being doomed!

I'm already looking forward to next year's game.

Mark B. who is not on LJ

Yes, he is; he's markbanang. He doesn't actually post to any significant degree, though ;)

And I missed it all again. Oh well, at least I'm on the uk-freeforms list now so I should know in time for the next one.

I'm already looking forward to next year's game.

I should hopefully be there as well.

a yahoogroup for freeforms in the UK.
Makers and players of Mystery Minds, Tangent Bunny, Epic Experience etc.
Once a year they're hosting a big weekender one (this year's was Siege of Troy). bibliogirl posted photos of that last night.

I'm glad everything worked out so well. Sounds like it was a really good game.
