Mixed blessings
Having a Polish Catholic mother and an English father, I'm already used to having two Christmases, so it's good to see that being pagan means that this tradition carries on even though we don't really bother with Christmas day itself anymore.

All this is by way of saying that lanfykins gave me a genuine Roman bone dice for Yule. This is one of the coolest presents I've ever had. I've never owned a 2000 year old dice before.

I didn't know you could buy stuff that old! I would have thought it would be in a museum! Unless there are lots of Roman dice around of course...

I didn't even know the Romans had dice!! :)

It'd have been hard for Caesar to say "Iacta alea est" if they didn't have dice...

The antique shop opposite Queen's in Oxford is a bad, bad place. It's like seeing cool stuff in a museum, only you can buy it...

That is extremely cool. I do not think I own anything that old; papersky picked up a coin of Diocletian's at World Fantasy Con, but we were tight enough cashflow-wise that particular week that getting me one from the reign of Julian the Apostate will have to wait until next time.
