Toe tapping
One of the problems with being in love with a wide variety of music is that the more you hear, the harder it is to get something that really piques your interest. Last year, The Magnetic Fields "69 Love Songs" was the thing that most had me unable to stop the tunes running through my head, but it's a shame to say that of the three other Magnetic Fields albums I own ("Wayward Bus", "Get Lost" and "i") none of them really comes up to the level of 69 love songs, although "Get Lost" has a couple of good tracks on it.

Anyway, what's currently triggered my internal jukebox is "Avalanche" by Thea Gilmore. I can't understand why it's so bloody hard to find records by her in the shops. borusa played some of her stuff at me last year, which I enjoyed, but I've been looking for an album of hers for about six months. I finally found one, and I have to say I'm very glad. The production is excellently suited to the songs, creating a restrained sense of tension that works so well with Gilmore's often highly cynical lyrics.

Avalanche: it's great isn't it? I picked it up at the folkfest in 2004 after seeing her play. I've got Songs From the Gutter too but it doesn't grab me in quite the same way. If you do get a chance to see her live though grab it, she's brilliant.

Thea Gilmore is ace! "Rules for Jokers" is probably still my favourite but "Avalanche" comes a close second. BTW which ones are you still having trouble finding? Last time I looked they were all available on Amazon... or I could, er, let you look after my offsite backups if you like

I've got "Rules for Jokers" on order from eBay. I'm sure I can get hold of more given time. Irritatingly, her own website is out of stock of everything. Still, don't want to get too much at once anyway.
