Richard Stallman is many many things. One of the things he most definitely is not is cool. He's far too off his trolley for that. While it's kind of nice that his zealotry has resulted in the GNU phenomenon, one might have wished for a spokesman for the Open Source movement who's a bit less, well, barking.

Recursive acronyms weren't even cool back in the dawn of time when they were his idea of an erudite joke. They haven't got one iota cooler since. For the goddess' sake, the joke (I use the word loosely) had precious little mileage then, so why, thirty years later, does every Stallman fanboy on the planet think it'd be really cool to come up with a nifty recursive acronym for their pointless piece of software? Give it a rest, people.

(Bet you thought this was going to be a rant about GPL 3, didn't you?)
