xkcd is scary
Take for example

http://xkcd.com/327/

I have now rendered half my friends list unable to breathe with laughter and the other half terribly confused.

Needless to say, if you're in the former category, you are an incurable geek. There is no going back.

PS I would still pay money to watch "River Tam beats up everyone".

(in a very very vague way)
I'm going to go and cry now...

But... but I found it hilarious and I'm not a geek...

...um...

I'm sorry my dear, it is obviously too late for you.

You forgot about the half that thinks "that's so last month"...

Yeah, but it is one of the best XKCDs...

xkcd in general, or that cartoon in particular?

As webcomics go, it's probably the one that makes me laugh the most. But I don't read webcomics on a regular basis, I tend to catch up in chunks.

That one in particular, being as it is from last month.

I suppose maybe it is the best of the recent ones (for laugh out loud geekiness), but I'd not have thought it as good as many others, so it seemed a bit odd seeing it suddenly linked now.

As webcomics go these days I only read xkcd and sinfest, but I get both of them by their LJ feeds.

I linked to it because I thought it's a particularly good example of how xkcd can be riotously funny or utterly incomprehensible depending upon your background. It's something you just don't see a lot in humour.

Ah right, I see what you mean.

I like the maths ones best for that :-)

I don't know anything about how to program databases, but I know enough about how computers and jokes work to get the joke and smile. So I don't think it's utterly incomprehensible, and yet I don't get it completely.

Clearly you are an edge case and the only sensible thing to do is to terminate your existence in order to minimise confusion.
atreic From: atreic Date: November 8th, 2007 05:58 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yes, I suppose that would work.

I was briefly entertained to find a video on YouTube purporting to be a trailer of "River Tam Beats Up Everyone".

Unfortunately, by "briefly entertained" I actually mean "up until I started watching it": it's just half-arsed text titling shoved over a montage of fight scenes from Serenity. I was hoping for some animated stick-figure martial arts, in the proper spirit of xkcd.
