Apparently we're all talking about the oppression inherent in the system
Today I have been SmartSesqui, which meant I was wearing a summer dress (the thing about leaving the house at 7am is you don't really have much to go on regarding what the weather is like) and *makeup*. (Shock horror!)

While walking home a random bloke shouted "Bella!" in my ear as he walked past.

I am a Bad Feminist. It made me feel good. And not even slightly Oppressed by the Patriarchy.

ETA I don't actually think I am a Bad Feminist. (This is an oblique dig at all the "no feminism but mine own" types.) Or that anyone else faced by this situation would or should react in the same way I did, or that they wouldn't or shouldn't. This man's behaviour was inapropriate. It just didn't bother me.

Tsk. Letting the side down.

Your LJ style's form input background colour is exactly the same as that of a website I'm currently making. It confused me for a minute.

*headdesk* It's fine for you to like whatever you like, and this experience sounds affirming rather than sleazy to me too, just as long as you're not claiming that all women should find all approaches of this sort by all men to be unthreatening or whatever.

Sorry. I think I'm reacting to the subtle implication that Good Feminists can't have fun or like to be appreciated or whatever. But I'm tired and possibly humourless, ha.

The Bad Feminist remark is not meant in any way seriously.

It's more a casual observation that harassment is in the eye of the beholder. I don't think the way the guy behaved was appropriate. It's just that his inappropriate behaviour didn't actually bother me at all.

Of course if this sort of thing happened to me all the time, I might find it more annoying.

I think it's the juxtaposition with libellum's post - I'm still feeling a bit churned up by that myself. Plotting posts in my head but still processing.

Shouting in ears is clearly inappropriate.

Is that the limit of the inappropriateness of his behavior, or was it in order for him to knowledge the joy that your appearance gave him ?

sorry: acknowledge the joy that your appearance gave him ?

I really have no idea what motivated him to behave in this way. It struck me as decidedly odd.
