Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Must have a word with my neighbours, and see if they mind me pruning their tree a bit.

(Did you know that if you do cut overhanging wood, you have to give it back to the owners of the property it overhangs from? You have to love the inertia in the British legal system.)

I thought you were supposed to *offer* it back to them. But if they don't want it you're stuck with having to dispose of it yourself.

I believe so, although I can't imagine how a dispute following ar_gemlad's suggestion would be resolved.

Fortunately it wasn't a hard poke, or a particularly sharp stick. Still not keen to repeat the experience though.
