I use dropbox to make sure all my important files are backed up somewhere they're unlikely to get eaten by monkeys. It has a number of advantages as far as online file storage goes. It's free, and all your files are securely encrypted, so basically all those lovely bits are no good to anyone working there without the password, which only I know. (They can see filenames, however.)

The main downside to dropbox is that the amount of free space is limited. Since I'd like to back up my large photo collection, I could do with a bit more. Therefore, if you're looking for something like Dropbox, I'd urge you to give it a try using this here handy referral line, which credits both you and me with a bit of extra space. (You have to install a PC client for the credit to be made. If you immediately uninstall it and never use it again, that's OK by me.

Sorry for the pimpage, but I really can't afford $10/mth for 50 Gig space. At some point, I promise Real Content.

PS if you do use Dropbox for backup, I recommend the (Vista and above) mklink /j command if you want to avoid moving all your useful files to the dropbox folder. (You can download junction.exe for earlier Windows versions which does the same thing.)

PS2 With a bit of hackery, you can add your Dropbox folder to your Start Menu. See http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/14101/add-my-dropbox-to-your-windows-7-start-menu/

Sorry - I'd usually be up for this kind of thing, well for useful services anyway :-) I do however already have a dropbox account for some reason...

This may be true of many people, sadly. Thanks for the thought though.

Aye, I'm using mine all the while - or I'd give it a go. Sorry!
